Dear Damn Daddy

Dear Damn Daddy,
I don’t know who you are, but my life has been so bad because of you. When I was very little and I would be so hungry that my stomach was signing a song, Mama always said, “If it wasn’t for your damn daddy, we would have food.” When I had no clothes or shoes to wear, she would look at me and blow smoke in my face and say, “Don’t look at me, talk to your damn daddy….”
Every morning when I went to school mama would say, “Get your sorry ass up! If it wasn’t for your damn daddy, I wouldn’t have to get up early every damn day, and she would yell and scream at me until my stomach hurt so bad. She would grab my arm and drag me to the door to leave for school.
Every year on my birthday, I waited for a cake like my friends would get and Granny would always say, “Don’t be lookin’ for nothin’ here. Your damn daddy knew it was your birthday. Did he buy you a cake?” Every Christmas I never got a gift, not even one toy because mama would tell me to ask my damn daddy for toys. So far that has been twelve times.
After a while, even though I didn’t know you, I began to hate you. People said I didn’t look like mama, and she would always tell them I looked just like my damn daddy. Sometimes mama sits on the porch with her friends, and they all talk about how hard their lives are because of the damn daddy. My friends say the same thing.
I will be glad when I grow up and leave this place and I promise I am never going to be a damn daddy. I am angry but I am going to be a good daddy and buy clothes and birthday cakes and lots of toys. I am going to give hugs and never hit.
Your son or your daughter,
I'm fundraising to continue to provide FREE anger management programs to individuals, families, defendants, schools and workplaces to help stem the tide of violence permeating our social fabric.
This is important to me because every day this scenario plays out over and over and over again impacting the way children, school faculty and administrative personnel behave. Classrooms are for learning, not 5 hours of meting out disciple, which is sometimes far more harmful.
Please consider donating $10.00 The money will go towards program materials and equipment and continuing to keep the programs FREE.
